Hi, All;
I hope all is well!
My husband and I have been together for 8 yrs (we just got married in December), but we have never gone on a proper romantic vacation, so I want to start planing a vacation for next year (around this month) to Tahiti Bora Bora ( I actually saw it in the barchelette and I really want to take my husband there). I have never planned something like this, so I don’t know how to start this huge plan. What would be the correct questions to ask a travel agency?, how do I know that they are real and that my tkt’s and itinerary is still valid a year from now?, What kind of currency does Tahiti use? Is it safe in Tahiti?
Thank you!

I would do a lot of research online. Local travel agencies typically aren’t too well-versed when it comes to these far-off places. Try getting information from Tahiti’s tourism board: http://www.tahiti-tourisme.com/, the TripAdvisor forums, and this forum: http://www.tahiti-explorer.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm
As for whether a travel agency is real or not, only deal with places you’ve heard of. If you’re in the Northeast I highly recommend Liberty Travel. I’ve used them for a bunch of trips, including our honeymoon to French Polynesia, and was quite pleased with their service. Ask friends and family if they’ve used any travel agencies. There are some travel agencies that deal exclusively with French Polynesia, but I preferred to speak with someone face to face. You may feel differently.
To double-check that your tickets and itinerary are valid, you can call to confirm with the airline(s) and hotel(s).
Tahiti (and all of French Polynesia) uses the French Pacific Franc, known as the XPF. Its currency rate is tied to the Euro.
Tahiti is safe. When we went we never felt uncomfortable. That doesn’t mean you should be careless though. We always locked our valuables in the room safe and always kept an eye on our stuff.
Tahiti is the main island of French Polynesia. It’s where the international airport is. It’s a beautiful island, but it’s nowhere near as pretty as the other islands.
Bora Bora is quite beautiful and is known for its amazing lagoon. There are a lot of hotels to choose from. I highly recommend getting an overwater bungalow. Unfortunately, it’s also quite expensive. When we went we spent 3 nights in Bora Bora after spending 4 nights in Moorea. We got to see 2 different islands as well as save a bit of money.
I stayed at the Intercontinental on all 3 islands (we did the Le Moana on Bora Bora, which is on the main island). The hotels were all fantastic.
Enjoy your trip!
Edit: Sorry, I know it’s already a super-long answer, but I just wanted to add that when we went it was the end of July/beginning of August and the weather was PERFECT. It only drizzled one morning, and the rest of the time it was like 85 and sunny.
